Default Tijuana - Tecate Train

Ferrocarril Tijuana - Tecate is providing scheduled day trips from Tijuana to Tecate. The train leaves Tijuana from Estación García (Blvd. Díaz Ordaz y Simon Bolivar) at 8:45 AM and returns to the station at 5:00 PM. The train heads out of town towards La Presa Abelardo L. Rodríguez y later makes its way through Valle Redondo on the 71 km trip to Tecate that takes two hours. Lots of nice views that you will never see from the highway and you will have about 4 hours in Tecate for shopping, sight seeing or even try some of the local brew or wine tasting. Sounds like a fun day and the next trip is schduled for December 5th.

I saw on another link that it was 200 pesos for adults and 100 pesos for kids and seniors. Not sure if that is still the current cost for fares - let me see if I can confirm that...

There are a couple of secure parking areas within a block of the station. Here is a map of the train route:

It does look like fun, and the views must be lovely. It would be SO cool to have a north-south train here!

You mean like a North/ South train the length of Baja? They barely have a two lane highway in places. I certainly agree that such a train could be a relaxing scenic experience. Problem is that there would have to be some overwhelming demand other than tourism for it to be considered.

I have always thought they could come up with some creative ways to combine cargo / passenger trains. That would make it very doable with the cost of truck transport up and down the peninsula...

A real challenge that stands out is the amount of grading/ earthmovement required. There are many places where a train simply could not handle the grades we drive on Highway 1.

The Tijuana NARCO's would have to learn to ride horses to chase the train

Didn't you ever wonder why the railroads of the past always followed the river

You mean like the transcontinental railway over the Sierra Nevada mountains in California and Nevada, built mostly by hand in the 1860's...??????

As I recall it is about 5 hours, with about an hour or so each way and a few hours stopover at Tecate where they have music, wine/beer tasting, food and other things to do.
