Tecate southbound
My cousin, who lives in Guadalupe Valley, got snagged for mordida yesterday.
Just a little heads up and whether this is true what this cop is saying or not I do not know but in this instance he was applying it. His words to me after asking how his return was after breakfast with us: " Fairly uneventful, except having to bribe a Tecate cop! A new rule requires a driver towing anything to make a left turn at the first traffic light after crossing the border. We didn't see the sign and went straight as we always did. Got stopped. $130 (U.S. dollars) fine. Of course I could pay him, but he did not have a receipt book with him. Or I could go to the police station and wait for the other cops to finish lunch and then pay the fine! Of course we just gave it to him so we could be on our way!" My response to him: " Ouch! You know, I have read a lot about the Tecate cops stepping it up hard the last few months. That sucks. I have always been able to bargain them down in the past but they kind of have you by the short hairs when you're ready to move on." And his comeback: "What can you do. All the times we've come down here and this is the first time something like this has happened. If I had not been tired and anxious to get back to the ranch, I probably would have insisted on going to the station and waiting for them to finish lunch. I bet he would have re-acted differently. Oh well, I at least I hope he had a date for this evening to spend the dollars on!" |

Re: Tecate southbound
I would have demanded a trip to the station. The cop probably does not want to leave his mordida location and might have let you go.

However, this is just for info since there was so much talk on another website about the Tecate cops behavior over the last 6 months or so and it looks like they are still at it. |

Thanks for the info...
We'll be passing through there next week towing a trailer. I'd be interested to hear if anyone has seen the sign, or if there actually is one. |

Re: Tecate southbound
I cross there often and fortunate for me I have learned to turn left at the first light. Most of the time its a real pain to go straight people park in the street and double park. I have never dreamed of towing any thing that way.
I have never seen the sign I have to go up Wed I will look for it. |
