And I can't forget the ones who slither; or get carried in by MALO MAGGIE! Last pic is the guilty party!! Second to the last pic....the well-gnawed baby rattler INSIDE the casa was her work....it didn't look to me as if it came inside willingly!

Disclaimer: I personally did NOT have anything to do with the demise of any subject of these pics!! ;)

Great photos!!!!!

My wife is scared to death of snakes and I hate to kill them so I will have to figure out a plan to come up with some sort of catch, remove and release program out our way at the new place...

And at least one came in by water!! This seal ended up at the far upper end of the inner bay for some strange reason. It may have been sick or injured, but it laid in the same place on the sandy shallow bottom for most of an entire day before it eventually disappeared.

The creature you refer to as some type of iguana is actually what we used to call Horney Toad Lizards when I was a kid. The correct name is simply a Horned Lizard.

Thanks Ron, I thought it might have been a Horned Lizard, but was too lazy to change original pic title.

I'm with your wife where snakes are concerned. In my book, even a dead snake doesn't qualify as a good snake. I had one in my casa for 5-6 NERVE-WRACKING hours several years ago. (SHUDDDDER!) Hint: Snakes don't like to be sprayed with RAID! Took me forever to get it out the way it came in...but then I spent that entire time walking on top of furniture!!

I know but if you spend enough time around them you will eventually figure out that they really are more afraid of us than we are of them. They see us as potential predators, not food so they will typically only strike if they sense we present a danger to them. Once I understood that my attitude towards them changed and I have learned to always walk outside with a scanning eye from side to side to pick up the shape and colors in their familiar locations and movements.

Over the years I have seen many folks walk right by them without ever noticing they were there. I will usually only speak up if I see they are in the snakes direct path and even then I will usually tell them to just go left or right in lieu of giving them the reason. Otherwise they are better off continuing on their way in ignorance as a sudden jerky movement would probably be sensed as more dangerous to the snake than a lanky casual stride that may pass only a few feet away.

We do coexist and there is no simple method of "keeping them away". There is also no way to calm my wife's nerves when she sees me carting one off on the end of a long stick to relocate it to a location some distance away...

My brother-in-law's mom has a ranch outside of Paso Robles with quite a few critters here and there. She went into her laundry room, found a rattlesnake, screamed, then opened up with a 12-ga pump!!!

Damn lucky she wasn't hurt or worse; between the tile floor, sheet metal appliances, etc...I'm sure the immense blast in the tiny confined area was impressive.

FREE TO GOOD HOME!!! TAKE ONE OR BOTH!!! SEND THE WHITE KID HOME!!!

There's a stray dog in my yard that was skinny enough from starving that it is able to slip through the 5" spacing of my ironwork gates....I felt sorry for it & fed it & now it refuses to unadopt me! Tomorrow it's getting a ride to the new Humane Society out towards San Pedro!!! But last night it was galloping around the yard & playing with something....I went out in the dark expecting to rescue a lizard....OH JOY!! I found a tarantula instead!

I put a pitcher over it so I could take some better pics in the light of day....those tiles are 17.5" square!! I ain't apologizing for the tarantula not being aligned better to the tape measure....I just laid the tape down....I was in charge of the 4 - 5' mark on the tape! Then I lifted the pitcher up & the spider scurried over against the tape, but refused to toe the line on where I told it to stand! Sorry, but I don't manipulate poses on spiders!!

The sad news is that Bing took off because of the new canine intruder in his yard....so if anyone sees a white, blue-eyed cat with a really disgruntled look on his face, please tell him his Mom & sisters miss him & it'll be safe to come home manana!! The black dog outside is a different one than the black dog inside & Bing knew that immediately!

I'm leaning strongly towards "Muerto"! Possibly "BG's Spider", but so far Muerto has a strong lead!!

Take him/her outside your compound a safe distance and let him/her go.

It's good karma...

My,my ... doesn't look like you get lonely around there... someone always coming by to say HI..

Thanks for the water shots too... and that is really something, to see a seal coming in that close.. pretty neat...

The only things that bothers me... "flying insects".. in large quantities

Remember as a young one collecting "horny toads" they used to be all over the place... have not seen one in a long while..

Thanks again for sharing you "world".. its fun to see... and find out what its like down there...

We got us horned toad lizards all over the place down here. Picking one up I got to see one of them cry for the first time the other day...
