Default How to Obtain Mexican Citizenship via Residency

Naturalization Certificate

This certificate is issued to foreign citizens who can demonstrate that they have resided in Mexico with an FM2 visa (booklet or the newer photo i.d. card) and the status of “immigrant” (inmigrante) or “immigrated” (inmigrado) for at least the five years immediately prior to the date of their naturalization application.

R E Q U I R E M E N T S

Form DNN-3. This form must be typed or printed legibly by hand with black ink.

a).-Present the original and two copies of all of the pages of your valid immigration document that was issued by the Ministry of the Interior (Segob) that demonstrates your residence in Mexico for the five years immediately prior to the date of the applciation. The documento must be valid for at least six months at the time the application is submitted.
b).-A sworn statement, signed by the applicant, that his/her arrivals and departures to and from Mexico for the last two years are correct.
c).-Present the original and two photocopies of all of the pages of the applicant’s foreign passport or, as applicable, valid identity and travel documents.
d).- Present a passport-sized color photograph (4.5 x 3.5 cm) taken within the past thirty days, full face, white background, no glasses, no headgear.
e).- Proof of payment of the corresponding fee.

How to pay the fee

NB: In compliance with Article 19 (part III) of the Law of Nationality, those interested in obtaining Mexican nationality through naturalization must take a test on his/her general knowledge of Mexican history and culture. The recommended bibliography is the book “Nueva Historia Mínima de México” (abridged version), published by El Colegio de México.
