Newbie
Hello everyone,
I'm new to the website, but I definately like most of what I've read. We purchased a small casita about five years ago in San Antonio del Mar (Baja Norte). Unfortunately after spending a moderate amount of money to renovate, my wife has drank the "Drug Cartel" kool-aid and no longer whats anything to do with Baja. I,on the other hand love Mexico. The good , the bad & the ugly. We've never experienced any problems whatsoever. We always enjoy ourselves. Although admittedly a little less our last few visits. Guess I'm just venting of sorts. My hope is that things will improve & we can enjoy Baja again. Thanks for listening. |

Re: Newbie
Welcome to the forum DocRey and many of us are in the same boat. I have a couple of friends who are terrified about coming to Mexico after all the news lately. Are you in SADM up by Rosarito or down here by Colonet?

Welcome to TalkBaja, Doc Rey............
You'll have to oversee your wife's use of the internet and make sure she doesn't go anywhere near Maggie and Fulano's blogs. By the way....Maggie is one of your neighbors. Have you heard anyone howling at the moon in the middle of the night? Ohh, what the hey........Here ya go: Maggie's Madness The Fulano Files |

Re: Newbie
Thanks guys. We are in SADM, north of Rosarito. I'm a firefighter/paramedic in L.A. Looking to retire in about 5-6 yrs. My wife works for CSUSB in Financial Aid. All our family is here in So. Cal. Just hoping thing improve in the interim. Maybe she'll start thinking like me. I'm s__t-full of Calif. Again, thanks.

Re: Newbie
I know a lot of firefighters seem to love Baja as I am sure a few of our forum members will attest to. I went through the firefighter basic training and served as a volunteer fireman for a small community up in the Sequoia National Forest years ago - does that count???
I did live in SADM north of Rosarito for a couple of years but never had the pleasure of meeting Maggie. Apparently she saw me at some point as somebody forwarded a comment to me that she made on her blog; posting that I looked like a scumbag, or some similar flattering accolade. Oh well, there goes another fan...

Re: Newbie
Thanks to one and all. Volunteer or paid, you have just as much chance as paying the ultimate price. It's a giving mind-set.
Fortunately, and after 30+ yrs. I managed to mosy on down to the fireboat in San Pedro. In many respects it's easier, other times it isn't. Luckily I served in the Navy & don't get seasick...much. If you're ever in the area and would like a tour/boatride (LAFD F.S. 112"C") look me up. Speaking of the Navy, and it's rank..I suppose I'm a seaman apprentice 'cause I'm a newbie, right? Hope to be going down this weekend. Homeowers meetin' @ SADM. Hope the weather's great. Thanks & take care y'all. |

Re: Newbie
That is some dream duty right there.....sheesh!
Hopefully you can get your wife to buy out of the hysteria. The violence is horrible but just look at the front page of any US rag and it's there, too.
