You'll have to import your vehicle in BCS. Considering the recent year, it could cost a pocket full....perhaps 700 bucks. Not sure of that price, but older vehicles commonly cost 500 to import.

Sure you want to do that? You don't really have to, ya know.

Bucks = Dollars.......by the way.

It costs more to import in BCS, do it at the border there are plenty of places there that do it, do shop for best price you will then have to register here for the placas no big thing, and its the way to go if you are going to live here.

Cost to import a 1999 Isuzu Rodeo in 2004/2005 (when the rule was 5 years or older) was slightly over $1K USD equivalent, plus the cost for placas, initial registration & tags. Also you can expect to pay Tenencia (really loose translation = new vehicle penalty tax for vehicles 0-10 years after date of manufacture) with the initial & following 9 year registration renewals....it was approx $350 USD equivalent per year on the Rodeo. This import was done in La Paz without having to take the vehicle to the border & wait for several days.

Rules have changed, both for model year of vehicle importable & importation location, so you'll need to do some research on current laws & regulations.

It ain't cheap, but once it's imported, it makes life soooo much easier not having to deal with annual renewals, DEQ & insurance issues in your home state as well!

One other thing to consider, with Mexican insurance most of the companies at no extra cost are adding a rider for US insurance so you are covered both places!

Hi all! Im Cachanilla's wife. Just a curious question here---has anyone experienced any earthuake action in the last say-2 or 3 years? Coming from Southern California it feels like they are becoming more common. Just curious if quakes are very common down in La Paz.

In the Mexicali region, earthquakes are relatively common and I have my own personal earthquakes every couple of days. Depends on my behavior.
Can't speak for La Paz, but I'm sure someone will.

I have felt some small ones out on the east cape. Last fall I think it was Los Barrillas that had a localized swarm.

The only one I (sort of) felt here in La Paz was during Hurricane Henriette in 2007. At first I thought I'd imagined it because so much commotion was going on outside. There have been a few other little ones since that I haven't noticed. Most happen out to sea between here and the mainland.

Thanks evperyone for your input on earthquake activity in the Baja region. I know earthquakes are a fact of life--pretty much whereever you go. I'm sure a little more at ease knowing you all aren"t having 5 or 6 point shakers! Great selling point! Cachanilla"s wife

Earthquakes are normal activity... the peninsula and part of the U.S. state of California (west of the San Andreas fault) is part of the Pacific Plate and is moving/ slidind NORTH, towards Alaska... and away from the North American Plate.

The Baja Peninsula was once snug against Mexico... starting about where Puerto Vallarta is... Cabo and Puerto Vallarta next to each other!
