Default Some Wineries in the Valle

Other wineries to check out inlcude

Monte Xanic

Truthfully? These are not some of my favorite wines in the Valle. They do a nice Sauvingon Blanc and their dessert wine is outstanding. The reds? not so much. What is really, really good at MX is the olive oil. There wine tasting set-up is also pretty cool. Being a big operation, their barrel room is pretty huge. They set up their wine tasting in the rafters of their barrel room. You go up a sturdy, but quite verticle ladder to reach it.

Las Nubes

Stunning views of the Valle

Since nubes are clouds, their wines are named after clouds. The Nimbus is quite good. They also serve an excellent local cheese to go with that wine. Great views + good wines = nice spot to while away a few hours on a warm afternoon.

Mogor Badan

One of the older wineries in the Valle, it produces the Swiss Chasseles wihte wine. It is a clean, dry, mineral-y wine. The winery also hosts a local farmers market on Wednesday and Saturday. Try the bread.

Vinos Garza and in back of them Tres Mujers both make very nice wines. Tasting at Vinos Garza is also nice and easy. Not much seating space but more than enough bar to belly up to and knowledgeable staff working it. Ring the bell at Tres Mujers and they'll let you into the small tasting room. Olive oil and preserves are also available.

And speaking of jams, jellies, oils and such trek out to Doña Lupes at the east end of the Valle just past L.A. Cetto and Domecq. La Doña has certainly been enterprising. I haven't been too thrilled with my food purchases there, your milage may, of course, vary.

There are now something like 90 wineries operating in the Valle. The easiest thing to do is just head up Mex 3, follow the Ruta de Vino signs and stop at places that strike your fancy. Most are somewhat off road. They do tend to close early (i.e. between 3-5 pm). The tasting pours are fairly generous.

Very nice reviews - thanks! We are getting very, very close to finishing the house and one of our plans is to start checking out the wineries. It would really be fun to do with others who share that idea of fun and maybe know the "local" ropes a little better. We have been to a few but I know that there is much more to see. We have some very good friends whose family has large olive groves up in the Guadalupe Valley and always gives us their private label olive oil. It is sooooo good!

I wanna go!!!
We have been down to the wineries several times last year and planning on going again on March 23rd with some friends who are finally brave enough to cross in Mexico.
Would love to also go with people in the know. We are in Mexico 2 to 3 weekends a month so if you are thinking about getting a group together on a weekend let us know

Jeff & Lori

Change your plans and attend the Craft Beer/Micro Brew Festival at the Rivera Hotel/Conference Center in Ensenada on March 23rd. Two outstanding beers to try are Zombie Brew Labs and Cervecera Tres Brewjas.

Last year there were about 60 craft brewers from all over Mexico, a large number from northern Baja.

Stop in at the Zombie Brew Labs/CerveceraTres Brewjas booth, say "hey", and I will have something for you and we can chat about wine touring!!!

Did you all know that California actually had wild grapes BEFORE the arrival of the Spanish?

In fact, they grew profusely in the current Los Angeles Basin.

However, the Jesuits brought the first European grapes in order to press wine for their religious rights. However, wineries didn't really get going until the 20th Century with the introduction of a wide variety of wines.

If you want a history of wine/grapes in the "New World", you should visit and do a tour of the wine museum in the Guadalupe Valley..........the Russian immigrants were the first to commercially grow grapes in the valley, and there are currently about 90 wineries in Baja
