Exclamation Entering Mexico on a NEW Residente Permanante

Just a heads up!! Friends duly did their homework & obtained their Residente Permanente visas in their passports at the Mexican Consulate in Las Vegas. They were told they were "good to go" & to "just check in with INM in La Paz within 30 days" of their arrival.

Fast forward to 25 days later when they go to La Paz INM & announce their presence.....imagine their shock when they were told that they are here illegally & that they must return to the border & obtain their FMM's!!

So just a heads up for those entering the country on any new version of Residente Temporal or Permanente, it's NOT enough for legal entry beyond the border zone; you are still REQUIRED BY LAW to obtain an FMM at the border to be able to continue the legal process to obtain your final Temporal or Permanente card at your destination location.

This was confirmed by a La Paz lawyer yesterday.

There is a HUGE disconnect between INM in Mexico & the Mexican consulates in the USA. The consulates are NOT advising people of this mandatory requirement in the INM process!! So my friends are making a mad dash for the border.....2,000 miles round-trip.....in order to get back here with their FMM's to begin the final process prior to the October 6 expiration date of their visas.

It'll work out- but the rule is idiotic imho. What if they had flown in?

They'd have been better off if they had flown.....they'd have been given FMM's on the plane!

A neighbor just received his resident temporary .I asked why he didn't go for the Permanent. His reply was they told him because he is self employed and don't have a confirmable income he doesn't qualify. he told them he would draw Social Security after his upcoming Birthday and they told him to apply for permanent then Go figure.

Seems that Mexico IMN has to occasionally put their collective head way up into that warm place just for drill.

Ohhh well.....I've heard stories of how Mexicans have been treated by US IMM trying to apply for a Green Card, and on one occasion, it brought tears to my eyes. Not a pretty scenario.
