Road to Bahia Asuncion from Guerrero Negro

I am planning to go down to Guerrero Negro in my compact car this year to see the whales, and I was wondering if anyone knew the state of the road from Guerrero Negro to Bahia Asuncion? Would I be able to make it in a Honda Civic or do you still need a decent sized 4 wheeler?

Our good friend Shari tells us that they have recently done a lot of work on the road and it is great!!!
