Re: Hi everyone-newbie
Welcome to TalkBaja Rose. Congratulations on your coming move to Mexico and you are smart to do your homework first. There is always a way to get internet down here; some ways better than others but you learn to work with the hand you are dealt. Based on where you will be living you should be able to get online via one of the following methods:
DSL Cable Wireless Satellite Tell us more about yourself and what part of Mexico are you considering for this next step in life? |

El Azucar
I'm moving to a little town about 30 minutes from the border with Rio Grande City, Tx. I don't think anyone there has internet. This was my parent's home and they have passed away so I am planning on making this my home base as I plan to do some traveling on both sides of the border. I have a couple of cousins and an elderly uncle that could look after the place while I'm away (I'll have to pay them for their service but that would only be fair). I've been reading Mexconnect & this website and finding a lot of info that is very important to know.
My last day at work will be 12/30/09. I plan to start the New Year as a "Americana Perezosa", although I'll be busy packing my things for the move for the 1st couple of weeks of the New Year. But after that I swear I'll take it slow and easy. Gotta go..I just got a notice that there will be a Service Outage here a work for a couple of hours. Thanks for welcoming me. MxR |

Re: Hi everyone-newbie
Well, the good news is that you already have a place and won't need to worry about that. As far as the internet, check with Telmex there and see if they offer Infinitum (DSL) where you will be living. If not, I can give you some internet by satellite suggestions...

Internet
You know, I have T-Mobile and in some parts of the house in Mexico I get good reception without roaming charges. I guess the satelite can't decide if I am in Mexico or US. Is it cheaper to get the cell phone/internet from a Mexican company than from the US? I've been told that it costs about $70. through AT&T.

Re: Hi everyone-newbie
Thanks you all for the info. I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas. I've got 2 more workdays and than I'll be officially a retired woman! I'll have to do a lot of packing and I'll have to put some stuff in storage. I should be finished by the middle on January. I am really looking forward to my new style of life. I just wish I could move to BC.
