A Geologist would be able to translate all this patterning to long ago (volcanic?) activity.

Naw....if you look at the debris piled below, the pieces sloughed off are each of the individual colors through & through. So it's not a surface stain. However, the fact most of the pattern is vertical, tells me that this section was most likely a horizontal cliff face at some time in the distant past which sloughed off as a large piece & ended up coming to rest on it's side to create the vertical patterns. But then, I'm not a geologist! The person with me the day I took those pics, however IS & he speculated more hypothesis than I can remember!

First rule of geology:

Sediments always form in horizontal layers?

I think what we see here is evidence of an 'uplifting' experience sometime in the last 6000 years? ;)

Fun to look at anyways. Thanks for sharing the pics!
