San Quintin, News?
Fulano's note: Looks like Bajagringo didn't move far enough south. Well, there's still Bahia Asunción. One of the bigger fallacies put forth by the BajaNomads these days is that only the border area of Baja is unsafe and that once south of Ensenada all is OK. They seem to think there is an invisible force field that the criminals won't cross. Or maybe somebody sprinkled magic fairy dust all around. ]
Two men were found dead in the early hours of Friday 10 June, under the Las Parritas bridge in San Quintin, located 110 miles south of Ensenada. According to initial data from the attorney general, the bodies were reported around 8:00 am. The bodies were of young men between 20 and 25 years old, one of which was wrapped in a tarp and another in a sleeping bag. Both were killed violently and were tortured before dying. At the moment none of these two men has been identified. Both youths were wearing jeans and striped T-shirts Is this valid? |

We are heading to town this morning to have breakfast with some friends. Will ask around and see if anybody knows anything. It definitely will be a hot topic at the diner...

The bodies were found under a bridge that is about halfways between San Quintin and El Rosario. The two are from Tijuana with some type of Sinaloa connection (that part varied from source to source) The two were working as fishermen.

Re: San Quintin, News?
The species in question are the almeja generosa:
These are fetching top dollar and Asia is buying everything available right now. There are 5 or 6 local, legal fishing operations I know of working the coastline south of San Quintin, all with the proper permits and following the rules in terms of numbers and size. The problem has arisen where a group came in working the area without any permits and taking anything and everything they could get their hands on. The locals working with permits went to the newspaper seeking help to get the story published and shed light on the problem. The out of town "pirates", as they are called by the legal fishing operations were not happy with the spotlight put on them and a rumor is going around that two of them went around making death threats against family members of those they suspected had fingered them. And those same two who made the threats would be the ones found under the bridge. At least that is how the current chisme tells it...
