Default Ready Lane @ Otay

We have new vehicle that does not have the SENTRI sticker (the application is currently in CBP cyber hell).

Had to go NOB today and dreaded the wait in line to cross, so decided to use the new Ready Lane. To use this lane all people in the vehicle need a government issued ID card that is RFID enabled (US passport card, SENTRI "card" or some such document - Not an RFID passport!!!)

As you approach the Otay border (not as some would have it - boarder) crossing and come up over the Bella Artes overcrossing, get into the far left lane. When I first saw the traffic backup it had me concerned.....however the line moves fast, and it is seperated from the other N/B lanes by concrete "K" rails.

There were three Ready Lane booths open and it took us a whopping 12 minutes to cross......that included a chat with the CBP booth person regarding my use of SENTRI cards and no SENTRI decal for the vehicle........after I explained the delay caused by the CBP on line vehicle registration system his remark was......."I thought computers were going to make our lives easier......have a great day and enjoy your trip to the US"

Seems to me that if people are reluctant, or cannot get a SENTRI card, they may want to invest in a passport card and use the Ready Lane

YMMV..............
