Does anyone know where to obtain a Ready Lane Pass in Rosarito Beach?

If you are talking about the medical express lane that program is called "FAST PASS". You can get one at the Rosarito Beach Hotel with a one night stay. I think the Mongolian Grill on Popotla Blvd in Rosarito used to have Fast Passes if you sit down for a meal.

For the ready lane you need a passport or passport card embedded with an RFID chip.

Methinks there might be a problem.

I use Otay all the time. I know where the "regular" lanes are, I know where the Ready Lanes are and I know where the SENTRI lane is.........I have never seen a "Fast Pass" lane at Otay.

What is a RFID chip and how do you obtain one? I was asking only about Ready Lanes. According to the USA Border Wait Times, they list only Standard, Ready, and Sentri Lanes. Where could you use the Fast Pass?

I believe that you can only use the Fast Pass at San Ysidro. The Fast Pass program was developed by businesses in Baja to allow a fast return to the US for those who spent mones at certain businesses. I think there is a special lane at SY for Fast Pass users

The Ready Lane is a designated crossing where you need a document with an RFID (Radio Frequency IDentification) chip such as a passport card or an enhanced drivers license issued by some states.

Best way to cross is to bite the bullet and get SENTRI

Thanks, we have the Sentri cards and they are great. I was interested in the Ready Lanes for relatives that visit us. They have US Passports but I don't know how you get the RFID chip.

Go to the US State Dept web site, look for passports, then look for passport cards. Think it's about $25 if you already have a passport. Fill in the form, print and sign, enclose a check, the signed form and your passport and mail off. Takes about 3 weeks to get everything back.

If you want directions for the Otay Ready Lane from Blvd 2000, let me know.

I think all the new passport books have the RFID chip in them. FYI, The Passport Card is good for land crossing only- you can't use it by air or cruises.

If they do, then why is the Ready Lane special as compared to the Standard lane which also requires your US Passport?

Actually, it's more like a request than a requirement.

The most obvious reason is there are no others that do not have a passport with a chip or a passport card with a chip and you save a lot of time in a Ready Lane compared to a standard lane where they scrutinize those others much more to allow them entry into the US. Example a car with 5 or 6 Mexican Nationals. This sometimes takes 15 minutes just for 1 car.

I contacted both the US Passport Agency & Customs and Border Protection. To obtain an RFID Card you fill out an application obtainable at your Post Office. The application is specifically for a Passport Card, not a Passport. Submit the application along with the fee, approx. $35, and in about 4 weeks you will have your RFID Card valid for 10 yrs.

My latest info from US GOV is that all US Passports issued since August 2007 are electronic and I guess that means they have the RFID chip and a Passport Card is not necessary?

It's a requirement for the Ready Lane. They make rules as they go. Best not to argue with logic, or references....or anything else.

What is the difference between the Chip Enhanced Passport and the Card, other than the physical appearance?

I understand it's our Govt. at it's best. I will quote from an email I just received from our National Passport Information Center
"The e-passport and the passport card both contain a vicinity-read radio frequency identification(RFID)"
If only the passport card and not the e-passport are valid for the Ready Lanes, it must be a policy set by the Customs & Border Protection Agency, not the Dept. of State. It makes no sense from a security standpoint.
