Default TJ-ENS Toll Road may be FREE Wednesday

Maybe the toll road to Tecate too. No, they aren't protesting the price of gas. We expats aren't supposed to understand these things, just take advantage of them.

There are two sets of Toll Booths in TJ- one on the east side to Tecate and the other heading south to Rosarito.

"The leader of the Movement of Resitencia Magietsrial, Marco Antonio Pacheco. announced that on Wednesday will take the motorway tollbooths Tijuana for free passage for cars, passenger buses and trucks within the National Day against Education Reform."

So to protest the proposed petroleum industry reform, they are not charging for tolls today? How does that work? The protesters don't own the toll roads.

It's México. It doesn't have to be logical to work- it just has to get attention. There is an oil well in the protest poster, but they are also calling this on a Day to protest education reform. They could have thrown in the new 16% proposed sales tax for Baja- maybe next week...

Just enjoy the free pass if the lanes aren't blocked. A group called #YoSoy132 did the same thing last year and took over the TJ toll booths. In the past these groups have marched to the border and closed it.

Protesters, especially unions, are given wide leeway for civil disobedience as a method of letting them blow off steam. Authorities figure it's a small price to pay, the inconvenience, to avoid the more radical display, riots.

Not a bad policy. . . let the protestors believe they are achieving something, while in reality it's just peanuts as business goes on as usual....

Mexican riot police fire tear gas, water cannons on striking teachers - CBS News

The teacher's protest in Mexico City didn't go like the Toll Booth takeover. Glad TJ was peaceful. This looks more like Syria than Mexico
